Sita Brahmachari is an internationally award-winning writer of numerous intergenerational, rites-of-passage novels, short stories, animation, poems and plays. An associate Lecturer at Goldsmiths University and Writer in Residence at Islington’s Centre for Refugees and Migrants, she has been a Get Islington Reading Ambassador. Her work has been endorsed by Amnesty International. 

In Sita’s work young people look through a global window to face the great fissures in today’s world and to adventure with hearts and minds open to the rights of every child and young person. Her debut novel Artichoke Hearts was recognised by The Guardian as one of the top 50 diverse books since the 1950s. Where the River Runs Gold and When Secrets Set Sail were Waterstones’ and Blackwell’s books of the month. Her novels have been nominated numerous times for the Carnegie medal and When Shadows Fall is on the 2023 Yoto Carnegie shortlist. Sita can visit schools (KS1 to KS4) in person, or online, to speak about her books and her motivations for writing.
