A WORLD PREMIERE

by Paul Herzberg

inspired by a true story

Produced and Directed by the Elysium Theatre Company, touring the North of England in spring 2025.

We are pleased to support the tour’s co-programming, about which more information will be shared soon. See below for information about the play, tour dates and locations and how to book.

“You think you know me. You don’t. So it’s time to talk.”

1997: a chance meeting on a train between two men, John, a black British activist and journalist and Marius, a white South African ex-soldier, sets in motion a chain of events that will change their lives forever.
2025: the two men gather to share their story.
Based on an award-winning short monologue (see below, note content warning) that has been seen all over the world, The Moth is a thriller that deals with race, war, the legacy of history, the power of our actions, the quest for redemption and the limits of forgiveness.
Elysium takes to the road again after its sell-out tour of Othello with a powerful new play that will grip you from the beginning and not let go…
The Moth is the second play to be adapted from Elysium’s award-winning Covid 19 Monologues.

CONTENT WARNING: Video contains themes (references to violence, racism, trauma and warfare) and uses strong language, including expletives, that some viewers may find upsetting or disturbing.

Don’t miss our blog by The Moth‘s Artistic Director, Jake Murray, who reflects on the play’s urgent relevance today — how it speaks to racism, nationalism, and the deep scars of history that still shape our world.
