To mark international Nelson Mandela Day on Monday 18th July 2022, we held an intergenerational conversation online, enabling guests to come together from across the UK, Ireland, South Africa and the USA.

The evening offered insight into the lives and stories of resistance in the Movement Against Apartheid in its various forms within the U.K, as well as analysis of the liberation movement both in South Africa and in exile in London. The discussion explored the meaning of The Freedom Charter from its inception through to the post-apartheid South African constitution and explore lessons learnt along the complex journey from revolution to government.

Professor Gus John gave a short contextual presentation to open the evening, prior to being in conversation with panellists Tanya Joseph and Nathaniel Pamah. The conversation was moderated by Onola Esther Ademosu, founder of The Black Knowledge Society and included a Q&A which held space for a rich discussion amongst the attendees.
