National Literacy Trust: Islington’s Black History story trail

LBI Black History walking tour

Did you know that in Islington you can discover stories and voices from all over the world, including Ancient Egypt, Africa and India?

Head outdoors, solve the clues, and discover freedom fighters, singers, explorers, dancers and other inspiring figures from Black history on this trail around the borough using this trail map.

It has been created by authors Avril Nanton and Jody Burton, with the National Literacy Trust, as a free activity inspired by their book Black London: History, Art and Culture in Over 120 Places (Inkspire, 2021) and  developed for Get Islington Reading, a borough-wide campaign aiming to embed reading for enjoyment in school communities and support transition from primary to secondary education.
